Plummers Lodges

Welcome to the outstanding fishing and hunting lodge located in the Lake of the Woods/Shoal Lake area. Although built in the rugged Canadian wilderness, it offers every provision for your comfort and convenience.

We cater to the discriminating anglers and hunters and our finest endorsement is the fact that 80% of our clientele are repeat customers.

Ash Rapids is located 22 miles southwest of Kenora, on Lake of the Woods, and can be reached only by boat or float plane. This is isolated, uncrowded wilderness. Ash Bay, our location is connected with Shoal Lake Narrows and Shoal Lake by Ash Rapids. A set of two reasonably "fast moving" channels. Within a 10 mile radius a maze of islands and waterways form a fisherman's paradise.

These sheltered waters can be fished every day regardless of weather or wind direction, and are known to have the finest smallmouth bass, muskie, northern, walleye and lake trout fishing anywhere. Our staff of experienced, reliable guides serve fabulous shorelunches, navigate miles of channels and bays, and they "find the fish and game" that you came for.

Walleye is no doubt the most sought after species on Lake of the Woods primarily due to it's eating qualities and availability.

Here on the Western Peninsula we have several areas that our guides fish for ole marble eyes all within a 15-20 minute ride from our docks. Since the closure of Shoal Lake (now a sanctuary) to walleye many years ago, our guides have taken the time to explore other areas near the lodge. During the summer months the use of a jig and leech is the more productive method. Trolling first to locate them at times is required, therefore an anchore, floating markers, depth-finder are good to bring along on your trip if planning to fish walleye.

With hundreds of bays, islands, and inlets this area offers the ideal habitat and conditons for all species of freshwater fish that inhabit Lake of the Woods.

Walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, muskellunge, lake trout and crappie are all abundant in these waters. Located on The Western Peninsula with immediate access to Shoal Lake, Shoal Lake Narrows, and The Labrynith Bays Ash Rapids Lodge is the "Only Full Service" lodge While other must boat 30 minutes or more to reach this area, we are only seconds away from the First Rapids which offers easy access to what many consider the "Last Bastion" for great fishing on Lake of the Woods.

Ash Rapids Lodge was the first resort on Lake of the Woods to practice "Catch and Release." We realized many years ago, that if we had continued to rape the lake we would soon be out of business. Many thought we were incorrect in doing so, but if you notice almost every lodge, resort, campground in North Western Ontario, now suggests Catch and Release. We have noticed too over the years that both the quantity and quality of fishing has significantly improved. Now it is possible to have a daily catch of 80+ smallmouth bass, 30-40 northern pike, and certainly the size of the muskie's in this area has dramatically increased.

We are proud to have instituted such a program. This ensures that fishing will always be available on Lake of the Woods for you, your children and your children's children.

The only fish we keep today are those used for shorelunch purposes (and these are the smaller fish. Not the breeding stock.) In order that this program works we offer a 5% discount for those who do "Catch and Release." It is not manditory. If you wish to keep your daily limits which you are allowed you are certainly free to do so.

Not giving any real secrets away. Our guides fish for muskie in Shoal Lake Narrows, The First Labrynith, Squaw Lake, and Ogema Bay just to mention a few. For any spot that may be in use, our guides know 10 others that could produce.

The average size of a muskie in our area is probably in the 30lb bracket. However from talking to our guests we know and they know that a lunker lurks in these waters.

The many professionals that fish from our location believe that if the World Record Muskie is going to be caught, it could very well be caught on Lake of the Woods, and from the Western Peninsula.
