Clearwater West, White Otter Lakes, Ontario
My Ontario Game Hunts have been offered here since 1978. The primary species are Black Bear, Moose, Whitetail Deer, Timber Wolf, Grouse and Hare. All types of firearms are popular. The hunt area known as the Turtle River White Otter Wilderness Park boasts an abundance of Game. By all standards, this area is very remote and unpopulated, with a single highway traversing through 2,000,000 acres - no trains, airports, power lines or smoke stacks in view for 10's of miles. Located a couple hours Northeast of Fort Frances, ON (border crossing). The Lodge is ideally located central to a vast hunting and fishing playground.
You are accommodated at Browns' Clearwater West Lodge, in your own private Cottage equipped in every way; offering 2-3-4 bedrooms, 3 or 4 piece bath, kitchen and living room. All are outfitted with stoves, fridges, microwaves, coffee makers, toasters, cookware and satellite televisions. Deluxe Cottages have magnificent Lake view with patio deck, gas bar-be-que, picnic table, firewood and campfire ring.
BEAR HUNTING
Our Hunt Packages are 7 days/7 nights and are based on a minimum of 2 Hunters - fees are slightly higher for single Hunters. We encourage single Hunters to bring a "Fishing Partner" or "Shutter Bug" to share the driving, accommodations and fishing equipment included in your package.
We limit the number of Hunters - generally 12 to 15 weekly, often fewer! You may hunt as close as 1 mile from the Lodge or as far as 50 miles - you choose! All Hunt Documentation is handled through the Lodge and you will need to furnish your own tree stands, hunter orange clothing, transportation and firearms.
We maintain a large number of baits (often 150+) and invite Hunters to select the baits necessary to bag their Trophy. Upon choosing the sites, Hunters then assume the responsibility of keeping them baited as long as they are hunting over them.
Primary bait ingredients will vary and all products are effective; beef, pork, chicken, wheat, corn, sweet rolls, bread, chocolate, griddle grease, as well as, Browns' Secret 'Sur-Lur'. With nearly 1 million acres of Exclusively Leased Hunting Grounds and one of the Densest Populated Black Bear Areas in this Province, we are certain we can offer you a hunt worth remembering. Based on our knowledge and lifelong experience, we guess-ti-mate this region sustains approximately 1500 - 1800 Bruins.
Many of our Trophies are colored animals - Blond, Cinnamon, Chocolate, Black! (White Chest Markings - V's, Crosses, etc.) An impressive number of "Pope & Young" & "Boone & Crocket" animals have been harvested in our many years in business. Let us know how we may help secure your Trophy Bear. Our facilities are wheelchair accessible and to this date, all handicapped Hunters have been successful in harvesting their Trophy.
WHITETAIL DEER HUNTS
Our Whitetail Deer Hunts are 6 days/7 nights. All our Whitetail Deer Hunt Packages are all inclusive. The season runs the first two weeks of November.
We host fewer than 8 Hunters per season over a 2 week period - a personalized, quality experience. Only Bucks may be harvested.
All Hunt Documentation is handled through the Lodge and you will need to furnish hunter orange clothing and firearms. The most popular rifle caliber is the .30, followed by .270 and 7mm.
Baiting is allowed and we do take advantage of the practice - April through November! Pellets, apples, corn, mineral salt licks, grain, etc.
We provide hunt transportation and we are in the field every legal daylight hour. Our Hunters generally "sit" or "stalk" for a couple of early morning hours, then walk back to a designated location to meet the guides who have driven and glassed fields and woodlots, searching for that "Elusive Whitetail".
Our hunters often "post" around a variety of woodlots while guides "beat
the bush" to flush out "Whities" through the day. The last couple of hours
of the day are often a repeat of the a.m. routine, Hunter's choice.
