We are small operators offering the personal touch to our clients who value the one on one experience. We hope they come as clients and leave as friends to return regularly.
Our hunting areas consist of private agricultural land which continues to produce record breaking wildlife species of black bear and mature, large-bodied bucks. The fall migration of huge flights of snows, blues, Canada geese and several species of ducks continues to challenge the expertise of any 10- or 12-gauge. The 2001 Spring and Fall Bear season showed a great 75% color phase with weights of 250-650 lbs, heights of 6.5ft and a 98% success rate.
Agricultural land in the Manitoba central region surrounding Riding Mountain National Park is a top producer of Boone & Crockett record book quality non-typical and typical trophy bucks. High scoring racks along with dark, heavy-antlered mass and body weights are positive reason for clients to return year after year.
Bow, muzzleloader and rifle hunts are offered on private land, eliminating the resident hunting pressure and lessening the opportunity of other human disturbance. Portable and ladder stands (enclosed and supplied with heaters if needed) are placed on scrape lines, rubs and between bedding and feeding areas. Safety harnesses and 2-way radios are supplied for communication with your guide. Hunters have options of changing hunting locations throughout the week since Big Grass has an ample number of stands for each scheduled hunt. Rattling horns, grunt tubs and scent lines give great success while in the stand. If you prefer an enclosed ground blinds to an elevated stand, Big Grass can accommodate this request while maintaining a safe hunting environment.
Big Grass offers Black bear hunts in Central Manitoba with 2001 success rates of 98% and a record breaking 75% color phase harvested during last years season. Rich supplies of seeded cereal and oat crops for forage and abundant wild berry crops create an ideal feeding habitat for the black bear. As a result, it is not unusual to find a bear that weighs in at 225- to 300-pound bears.
We host spring and fall bear hunts. You can take your pick of bow, muzzleloader or rifle hunting.
Big Grass' hunting areas cover a large amount of acreage with small lakes, rivers, valleys and swamp systems, allowing for rotational hunting throughout the property. This management technique is proven effective in reducing hunting pressure on the black bear population in our area.
