Bighorn Outfitters offers great elk hunting, deer hunting, bear hunting, wilderness pack trips and vacations in the Bighorn Crags of Idaho for anyone who wants a wilderness experience. We have hunting, fishing, packtrips, camping, trail rides, and photography trips. Our hunting includes elk, deer, mountain lion, bighorn sheep, bear, predators, and game birds. The fishing is for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, grayling, golden and brook trout. We have over 40 mountain lakes and fish by spin casting or fly fishing. Our trips can be tailored to your desires. You can explore, hike, hunt, fish or just relax and partake of the fine foods we provide.

Mule Deer Backpack Hunt: This hunt is located in the Middle Fork of the Salmon river country. This hunt starts by riding 25+ miles by horse or mule until you reach a very remote base to start your adventure. From here you will hunt by backpack or daypack for very large mature mule deer that seldom catch a glimpse of man. You will spend most of your time hunting these deer much like you would hunting Bighorn sheep, glassing and using spotting scopes. These hunts mainly take place before the rut when these big bucks are in there summer range 6,000 to 8,000 ft. Camp can vary from a tent with a stove to a 2 person backpack tent. This country is very big and sees very little if any hunting pressure due to its remoteness. This hunt is very much like sheep hunting and should be considered a very physical hunt. $8500.00 (1X1 only).

Our hunting area consists of approximately 275 square miles of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. All of our hunts are horse pack in and tent camp hunts. We hunt units 27 ( September 15 opener ) and unit 28 ( October 15 opener ) and use six to eight different camps throughout the season depending on weather, season dates and hunting success. You may book a hunt as one hunter per guide or two hunters per guide. Sorry, we do not offer drop camps.

Our elk country is steep and rough with elevations from 3500 ft. to 10,000 ft. with camps located from 5000 to 8000 ft.. Our success is around 55% take and 90% opportunity. Our high success rate does not imply easy hunting, it simply means we hunt hard and have an excellent population of trophy animals to hunt.

Camps consist of pole-framed wall tents with wood stoves and four-inch foam pads on bunks in the hunters' tents, a large cook tent, guide tents, and tack tents. We run one to three camps at a time, with usually four hunters per camp. You may book a hunt as one hunter per guide or two hunters per guide. But unless you come with a good friend we will book you in as a one on one hunter.

Our camp has a full time cook and camp jack. Our food is exceptional and the camp jack will normally light your fire and bring you coffee or beverage in the morning. The camp jack will pack out meat as soon as feasible to a local meat cutter for processing if that's your desire. The butcher will cut and wrap and send your meat to you if it is not finished by the time you leave. We also have several excellent taxidermists in town if you wish to use their services.
