Plummers Lodges

Welcome to Black Bear Camp, your family's wilderness adventure outfitter in Northern Ontario. Let us guide you to some of the best Black Bear , Moose and Wolf hunting in Canada, as well as small game like Ruffled Grouse and Ducks. If hunting is not your game, then fish our crystal clear 3000 acre lake for excellent Smallmouth Bass, Walleye (Pickerel), Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Whitefish and Jumbo Perch. Nearby streams, lakes and rivers have awesome trophy Brook Trout (Speckled Trout) fishing and spectacular unspoiled scenery.

We offer other activities such as hiking, ATV off-roading, mountain biking, big game viewing, boating, canoeing, wind surfing, scuba diving, swimming, blueberry picking and photography.

Black Bear hunting in Northern Ontario is the best in the world. Most hunters already know that the Spring bear hunt was closed last year. Now we have a population explosion of bears in the region and the land can not feed the amount of bears in the area. As a result, we have a lot of bears feeding at our baited stations which is giving our customers an unusually high success rate with the Fall hunt. Our bear hunting area consists of 140,000 acres. We have over 30 bait stations approximately 1 mile or more apart from each other. We bait our bears with only quality beef and pork which keeps them coming back every day.

Moose hunting is awesome north of Lake Huron and Lake Superior. The whole northern rim from Killarny Provincial Park to Thunder Bay has the highest population of Moose in Ontario. Not only are there lots of Moose but the Moose are big from the plentiful feeding grounds on the outer edges of the Canadian Shield. Due to government cut-backs, a population assessment of Moose has not been conducted by the Ministry of Natural Resources. As a result, no adult non-resident tags have been issued to Black Bear Camp this year. Residents of Ontario can obtain a moose tag through the regular draw system. Our Moose hunts are in WMU 37 & 38. Moose hunters just have to pay for the regular cabin rates.

Walleye are the most hunted game fish in Canada. It's true that they have a scrappy fight but the main reason for their popularity is that they are easy to clean and taste fantastic. There are many people who will say that Walleye are the best tasting fish in the world. Here at Black Bear Camp, we have good Walleye fishing due to several factors. The first being our conservation attitude and the second is our remote northern location. The main reason is the health of Birch lake. There is so much bait fish forage that the lake can support an almost unbelievable population. There are many trophies in the 7 to 8 pound range caught and released each year.

Northern Pike are the masters of the lake and eat almost everything that moves. In Birch Lake, big Northerns are caught and released on a regular basis. Many people in the past fished for Pike for fun but only ate Walleyes. The growing trend is to eat small Pike because when they are small and fresh, they taste very much like Walleye. It's true that they are a little tricky to clean so if you have never cleaned a Pike, we will show you how.

Lake Trout get big. Many people have never experienced the awesome thrill of bringing a big monster Lake Trout up from the depths. It's something that just can't be put into words. You know you have something big on but you don't know what it is until it reaches the surface. The mystery and anticipation just drives you nuts. This is why people who are Lake Trout fisher-persons are Lake Trout fanatics. At Black Bear Camp, the depths of our Birch Lake hide Lake Trout of incredible size. Over 10 pounders are common. It's hard to say what's down there waiting for your lure to go by.

Brook Trout also called the Speckled Trout is one of the most beautiful fish in North America. They are much smaller in size from other fish but the joy of walking up and down a scenic northern stream just adds to the adventure of finding these sometimes elusive fish. Brook Trout are also the best tasting of the Trout Family. At Black Bear Camp, we have many local streams and the famous Wakonassin River which will give you the chance to not only catch good numbers but big size Brook Trout. Our guests are catching lots of small eating size and bigger trophy sizes in the 2 to 3 pound range.
