Exploratory fishing expeditions to remote, previously un-fished Arctic regions for Arctic Char. Fly-Fishing Float trips down the upper Thelon River for tropy trout & grayling, special fly-fish ther lake trout spawn on the NWT tundra!

Can you imagine fishing in world-class waters at one of the most remote areas on earth? Or, dropping your line into crystal-clear lakes and streams that have never been fished before by man? Or, preparing shore lunch of freshly caught lake trout, Arctic grayling or Northern Pike next to grazing herds of wild musk-oxen or caribou? That is precisely the experience that Great Canadian Fishing Adventures has to offer you.

The Canadian Arctic is famous the world over as the very best freshwater fishing reserve in the world! Trophy-class lake trout, Arctic grayling, great northern pike & Arctic char abound, just awaiting the line of the adventurous angler! The bountiful, pristine waters of the mainland Arctic are extremely sensitive to fishing pressure due to the cold water and its effect on the growth rates and productivity. Most quality lodges have strict 'trophy only' or total 'catch & release' management restrictions.

The Thelon River located at the most remote eastern reaches of the Northwest Territories near the Nunavut boundary - has been deemed by the Fisheries Department as one of the best habitats for Arctic grayling in North America! The grayling run huge here - the average size bring 2.5 lbs., with many running to the 4.5 range. The largest to date was 5.2 lbs. - just short of the worlds record! Huge lake trout and northern pike are also found in abundance along this section of river!

Join 'Tundra Tom', veteran bush pilot and wildlife guide for spectacular trips into Canada's Arctic wilderness. Photograph caribou, wolves, bears, gyrfalcons, musk oxen, moose and bald eagles in the true wild. Travel to the remote reaches of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, Canada for incredible ecotourism adventures, aircraft-supported wildlife camps, & canoe and kayak expeditions under the northern lights or the midnight sun.

We carry our fish management a step further than the rest with a new alternative: Trophy fishing - Expedition Style. We penetrate some of the most remote and un-fished waters of the Arctic. We utilize float aircraft boats rigged for trophy fishing and Arctic weather conditions, and comfortable camps and lodge locations.

We have been operating low-volume / high service quality trophy fishing trips in the Arctic since 1976. By the virtue of that 28 years of experience, and by continual exploration of new waters, bays & island drop-offs of our immense Arctic lakes, we widely disperse the fishing pressure, and offer you the very best chances at that huge trophy!

AMERICAN PLAN: These two very special trophy fishing expeditions are fully guided & catered from our camps on Whitefish Lake of the upper Thelon River, NWT; with excellent fresh-food meals served daily. After greeting you upon your arrival at the Yellowknife airport, we then commence on a 236 airmile charter flight to our main basecamp on the Upper Thelon River. Included are qualified lake fishing and fly-fishing instructor / guides, heated Quonset sleeping accommodations, plus a central shower/wash room.

We are proud to offer in service our new high-powered pontoon boat - the 'Boo Barge'. Flown in & built on-site in 2003, we motorized it with a 75 hp 4-stroke Yamaha. It has proven to be a super-stable platform for fly-fishing while anchored or drifting over the trout spawning reefs; or for slow trolling in comfort! And the fishing at this time of season is absolutely awesome! During the shallow water fishing on the spawning reefs with fly-rod or ultra-light spin casting, we regularly see as many as 40-80 trout per day per boat (two fishermen), with record days producing as many as 115! Trout average from the 6 -15 lbs, with many caught weekly in the 20-40 lb range. Arctic grayling on the upper Thelon River is truly world-class, with fly-rod or ultra-light producing 40-50 at a standing. The grayling here average 2.5 - 4 lbs.! On calm evenings, the BIG lake grayling will come in and surface feed right off the camp beach!
