95% of our guests return here's why; "This was the best trip I've ever experienced in the last ten years, the fishing was great, our guide was terrific. The equipment, your meals and entire staff were all unequalled to any other camp I've been to" Al Ripoli, Hawthorne Woods, IL
Since Louis and Yvonne first started welcoming fishermen to a small camp on Black Sturgeon Lake north of Kenora back in the 40’s, the Halley family has continued the tradition of commitment to their guests and the environment that has preserved fishing stocks and forged relationships that span generations.
We would like to welcome you to the portion of Canadian wilderness that has become known over the years as “Halley Country.” In northwestern Ontario, set amid the seemingly endless expanse of lakes, rocks and tall pines, you will find the places that sportsmen have been discovering and returning to for over 50 years.
Over the years, Louie and Yvonne’s sons, George and Gene, and their families settled on the English River, building a camp first at Caribou Falls Landing and then converting a tent camp outpost at Kettle Falls to an American Plan resort. Kettle’s most outstanding feature is the main lodge, a massive structure of indigenous logs and stone. In 1993, the log cabin that was built on the Berens River at Sharpstone Lake became their northernmost outpost cabin. The new lodge at One Man Lake, built in 1997, is open year ‘round for summer and winter fishing and snowmobiling.
With this quartet of lodges and camps, sportsmen of all interests and abilities will find accommodations and fishing to match their tastes and expectations, all set amid the blue waters, tall pine trees and the unbelievable fishing for which the English River is known.
The shores of the English River are as uninhabited today as they were when the Hudson’s Bay Company first established a fur trading outpost on One Man Lake way back when.
Guests can watch in fascination as soaring bald eagles, plentiful black bears, adult moose and their calves, countless beavers and other wildlife share the wilderness and lakes with the Walleye, Northern Pike, Small Mouth Bass and Lake Trout that thrive in the clear waters of the English River.
One Man Lake Lodge is a secluded in a blanket of trees deep in Canada’s wilderness, Halley’s One Man Lake Lodge opened to guests in March of 1997. One Man Lake Lodge was built to accommodate you in woodland comfort. Accessible only by snowmobile in the winter season, you will find a serene setting of nature in its most untamed state. One Man Lake Lodge lets you retreat into the snow and tall trees with eight rooms in the lodge and two winterized cabins for a maximum occupancy of twenty people. The smell of hearty home cooked meals linger through the dining room air while the full time staff serves you breakfast before seeing you off on your winter adventure.
There’s plenty to do for the whole family, indoors and out. Play a game of pool or darts. Or if you feel like some warm relaxation, try the sauna or hot tub. Also, with satellite TV, you can relax and enjoy your favorite hockey game or television show. Outdoors you can enjoy the snow with cross-country skiing, tobogganing and snowshoeing. There’s a skating/ hockey rink for the delight of the whole family, and of course, snowmobiling.
