Plummers Lodges

Lake Ogascanan Lodge is located 310 miles due north of Toronto, Ontario. A five hour drive from Toronto brings you to Temiscaming, Quebec. From there a bush road winds through 60 miles of remote wilderness and brings you to the main camp. Although pick-up trucks or vans are more suitable, all types of cars have been driven in. Keep in mind that this is a bush road and there are places where you will have to go slow regardless of your vehicle type. Approximate driving time will be 2 hours, although if you're pulling a boat or any kind of trailer, it will take longer. In this 60 mile stretch of road, you won't find any gas stations or restaurants, nobody lives in here. When you arrive at the main camp, you'll know you are back in the bush! Don't worry; we're going to send you good travel directions. Some guests prefer to fly-in rather than drive the bush road. No problem, we can arrange it for you.

PORTAGE TO INLAND CONSERVATION LAKES - When you portage, fishing becomes more than fishing it becomes an adventure! We have never allowed fish to be taken from these waters! We’ll give you directions to the portage location. Follow a rudimentary bush trail for 10-15 minutes and discover a pristine inland lake. The canoe is already there. Paddle around these mile-long lakes and enjoy pike fishing fast and furious. Expect most of your action to be in the 24-30 inch range, but don’t rule out a trophy. Caught, photographed and released. We recommend ultra-light to medium action rods, 6-8 pound test, steel leaders, ¾ ounce spoons and of course single barbless hooks are a must. These lakes are terrific hideouts where both young and old can experience the joys of sport fishing. As you glide peacefully around these lakes you’ll have a good chance of getting close to some Canadian wildlife; perhaps a moose or a mama bear and her cubs have a camera ready!

Lake Ogascanan Lodge is a family owned and operated business. The Mullens family is now into its third generation of outfitting experience - we know what you expect and we are there to provide it. Ogascanan has become the sport fishing favourite of many and we invite you to make it yours.

Lake Ogascanan is 15 miles long with numerous long, narrow, sheltered bays that provide interesting shorelines to fish. It gets its name from the native word for fish hatchery. Ogascanan is a natural hatchery for Walleye, Northern Pike and Lake Trout. Quebec fishing at its finest!

WALLEYE in excellent numbers and sizes! Lake Ogascanan Lodge has yellows and blues! Fishermen are surprised to learn that a blue walleye is as common as a yellow in Ogascanan. Most of the walleye you will catch will be in the 14-24 inch range. When you get into a school of these walleye at feeding time, you can expect a lot of action in short order! Although similar sizes school together, a good chance for a trophy exists at any time. We have caught them up to 32 inches long and 12 pounds, mostly in 4 to 25 feet of water. The Mullens family uses ultra-lights with 6 pound test, a chartreuse jig with a crawler, and we catch fish! We anchor, drift and troll this rig.

NORTHERN PIKE - Many of our Ogascanan fishermen have experienced the excitement of having one of these fierce fighters attack walleye being reeled to the boat. Other anglers have witnessed savage attacks as these "water wolves" rip violently at walleye on their stringers. Many of Ogascanan walleye bear prominent scars-- a testament to the aggressive nature of these fresh-water jaws. Although we see a good many trophies in the 40 inch plus range, expect most of your pike action to be in the 24 - 32 inch range. (Our biggest, 48.5 inches, 30 pounds,). You'll be fishing depths ranging from the surface to 20 feet. The Mullens family catches more northern on jigs and crawlers than any other rig, although a variety of spoons are used. We encourage you to rig light and have fun. If he's too big and gets away he'll be bigger next time. We are pleased to say " Ogascanan fishermen release most pike! It just keeps getting better! "

LAKE TROUT - Serious trout fishermen have long recognized Ogascanan as a top producer. Most of your trout will be in the 24-30 inch range (4-10 pounds), however, we see trout in the 20 pound range every year. Our biggest was a 42 inch 35 pounder! Lake Trout are a cold water fish preferring temperatures between 44 and 52 degrees F. In the spring they can be caught by casting or trolling spoons on the surface in walleye and pike waters. As the water warms, they go deeper, which is more conducive to trolling steel line, lead core or down-rigging techniques. In the last few years many of our walleye fishermen have become hooked on trout. They've caught nice trout by drifting deep water and vertically jigging crawlers. Everyone knows the reputation that pike have as being fierce fighters - pound for pound trout give you a better battle.
