Northern Lights Resort & Outfitting has excellent fishing, youth quest (programs for children/young adults) outfitting w/kayaks, canoes, boats & motors from 15-150 hp., pontoon, hot tubs, & spring & fall Birder programs.

Northern Lights Resort & Outfitting is a full service but NO American plan as yet. We are planning in the near future. We have boat/motor, kayak, canoe,& hot tub rentals. Outfitting, Birder Pkgs, massage/spa services, pontoon rental, 9 lakeside cottages & 1 grand 5 bedroom, 3 bath.

We have a sheltered harbor and a dedicated slip for each cabin, extra slips are provided for the larger rental units. There is a concrete boat ramp and safe trailer storage. We sell gas, oil, bait, tackle, clothing, snacks and refreshments.

Beyond Northern Lights, the Voyageur's National Park Service provides a whole summer of really fun things that include park tours, kids adventures, wildlife walks, "Birds Before Breakfast" hikes, evening campfire programs, beaver pond explore or paddle a 26 foot voyageur's canoe "Canoe du Nord". The area is rich in history and connects us with our cultural roots, along with the mysteries of geology and the wonders of nature.

It is also fun to take a trip to International Falls or across the border to Fort Francis, Canada. Both cities have 18 hole golf courses. There is an Indian burial mound, Grand Mound History Center, 17 miles West of International Falls or the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary, near Orr, where you will get real close to the bears in their environment.

A vacation at Northern Lights will expose you to the essence and embodiment of the Great North Woods and we want to make that a fabulous experience that you will love to share with your friends and family. We take our responsibility for that very seriously. "Come Be Our Guests".

The Trading Post - This is the former boathouse, which we have expanded, remodeled and dubbed the "Trading Post". It is kind of funky and we've decorated it as such. We sell snacks, candy, pop, bottled water, fruit drinks, clothing, ice, bait & tackle, wood, gifts and antiques. Come enjoy a free cup of fresh coffee while browsing. Under the trading post, there is a family of Tasmanian devils disguised as chipmunks. They are non-rent paying and freeload sunflower seeds. They eat out of our hands, climb up our legs (baggy shorts can be tricky) and onto our shoulders. The floor is reminisent of the wavy floor in the Kettle Falls Hotel.

Northern Lights Resort & Outfitting is surrounded by wilderness in a secluded bay on 16 acres, with nearly a ¼ mile of shoreline. Lake Kabetogama (Ka-be-tow-ga-ma) is one of a chain of wilderness Border Lakes with majestic scenery and part of Voyageurs National Park on the Minnesota, Ontario border. From our dock, there are 65 miles of uninhabited, road-less wilderness waterways with hundreds of islands, bays, coves, rock bluffs and gorges. There are 19 other remote hike in or fly in lakes with a variety of fishing and lots of adventure. Fisherman love the fishing, our cabins are loved by the ladies and those particular about their comforts, kids love our sandy beach, water trampoline and our weekly Youth Quest. Our goal is to make you smile, feel good and re-charge your batteries. The sights and smells of our environment have a peaceful and calming effect, along with an inspiring feel for adventure.

Our guests love to fish and explore the waterways at Voyageur's National Park.

Northern Lights Resort & Outfitting will help as much or little as needed. Our grounds are spacious and provide privacy. We are sensitive to interruptive noises and conscious to minimize them.

A trip to historic Kettle Falls is a tremendous thrill. It is only accessible by water. About 25 miles from our dock. There is a waterfall and full service 1912 hotel with food and beverage.

In the spring the fishing is excellent, birds are active, the bears are out of the dens with cubs foraging for food.

Mid summer is a great time for water sports. You can usually find smooth water in our bay or others for water skiing. July is Blueberry picking time.

The autumn is bright with colors, and again very hot for fishing.

Winter is peaceful and a special kind of beauty to be enjoyed by snowmobiles, cross-country skiing or snow shoeing. There are extensive snowmobile trails and the Echo Bay Trail is groomed for skiers.

The Lake is among Minnesota's Top Ten Walleye Lakes. The lake is also home to Perch, Sauger, Northern Pike, Crappie, Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, Burbot, and there are also Whitefish, Lake Sturgeon, and Cisco (Tullibee). The area is also welcomes those who hunt with a land full of opportunities.

The lake contains numerous islands. The lake is also home to Perch, Sauger, Northern Pike, Crappie, Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, Burbot, and there are also Whitefish, Lake Sturgeon, and Cisco (Tullibee). The Crappie in the lake are abundant throughout the lake. Many of the fish do reach trophy size ranging from 1 to 2 pounds. Pike however have been struggling in recent years. Most fish are less than 5 pounds, and some reach between 8 and 10. Few fish between 16 and 20 pounds are taken out of the lake. Smallmouth bass are present throughout the lake, but angling pressure for the species is light, and many focus on walleye, as Lake Kabetogama ranks among the top 10 walleye lakes in Minnesota. Many people have come upon systematic techniques for fishing the lake. Many anglers prefer to troll around drop offs and let their lure out at a depth of 7 to 8 feet nearly 50 to 80 yards behind the boat, in hopes of catching larger pike. Most anglers prefer a heavier line, around 20-pound test.

Many anglers also like to work in the bays and vegetated areas in hope of catching a lurking predator. In spring, walleye are more likely to be found in water less than 15 feet deep, and the larger fish between 3 and 4 feet. On windier days, walleye are known to move into rock reefs to feed, and respond to crankbaits over these structures. From September on, Walleye are usually taken in water around or less than 15 feet of depth At this time of the year, anglers prefer to use jigs and crank baits. Smallmouth bass spawn between May and June over shallow gravel areas, where a constant current is present. Anglers often aim for rocks or drop holes in the shallower water, and fish with 4-inch plastic worms, and Twister Tails. During the summer, smallmouth move between the depths of 10 and 15 feet. Once again, anglers prefer to cast spinners and crank baits around rocky points. Crappie and perch, along with rock bass are found throughout the lake, and are primarily caught with smaller baits, in areas over 15 feet in depth.
