Plummers Lodges

Northern-western Saskatchewan is a hunter's dream. Whitetail buck, bull moose and huge black bear roam the forests and meadows. The area is far enough away from major population centers that hunting pressure is amazingly low. Non-existent in many regions.

Most hunters understand that trophy quality animals don't grow on trees. Deer, moose and bears must live long enough to reach maturity or older to develop the size and mass that hunters are looking for. This takes four to six years for whitetails and much longer for black bears.

Muskwa! Black Bear! Take your pick, either word - Cree or English describes one of most intriguing animals in Saskatchewan's forests. Black, blonde, cinnamon, chocolate - black bears come in many colours - and sizes!

Let's start by stating a fact about black bears. Big bears take a long time to get BIG - as in six or eight years and preferably longer. For a significant number of bears to live that long the area must be very lightly hunted, or preferably not hunted at all! Big bears need specific habitat and lots of it. Northern Pine Outfitters has an exclusive allocation of over one-hundred square milesof virtually un-hunted wilderness. Virgin forests, abundant creeks, ponds and lakes and cut-overs and meadows that produce lush blue-berry crops. Bear Heaven! Since we put out a lot of baits we only hunt locations that have big bruins working them. Although we attract a lot of bears at most of the bait sites, our guides know how to determine where the truly big boars are hanging out. We set our hunters up so that when the opportunity presents itself, whether archery, muzzleloader or centerfire rifle, the shot will be doable. Our comfortable ladder stands will be positioned to ensure clear shots. Bear hunting Saskatchewan-style is an experience. We transport our hunters in comfortable riding ATV's to remote forest locations. Our ladder stands are easy to get into and designed for comfortable sits. During the first portion of the day our clients fish, accompany the guides on bait-checking and refreshing runs, or merely hang-out at camp. There is definitely time to smell the pine-cones and enjoy the freedom from phones and deadlines. Mid-afternoon is when the hunts start and we pick-up clients at the end of legal hunting light. The big boars like to come in during the last half-hour or so, although they might show at anytime.

Northern Pine Outfitters has an enviable record for producing great whitetails, moose and bear. Bucks and bears are hunted over bait while moose are generally called into range during the rut. Gordon and his Northern Pine Outfitting guides supplement the bait-hunting with grunting and rattling and they are considering using deer decoys. How do they produce such strong numbers of trophies? They know their hunting territory extremely well, including where the game prefers to live and key movement patterns. These guys spend enough time in the bush to ensure they are hunting the best opportunities in their area. Their scouting reveals where the big bucks are hanging out, where the rubs and scrapes are and the size and coloration of bears hitting specific bait sites.

Modern equipment, excellent accommodations, abundant game populations, zero hunting competition - all of these features guarantee a hunt with Northern Pine Outfitters will be a trip you will always remember.

"BIG" is a relative term. The term "BIG BUCK" is one of the most in-exact terms in the English language. What might be a "BIG BUCK" to one hunter might be a non-shooter to someone with differing standards.

Northern Pine Outfitters knows what a BIG BUCK looks like - SASKATCHEWAN BIG! Our definition of "BIG BUCK" will satisfy the most demanding hunter and leave most sportsmen breathless and shaking in their boots. We not only know what constitutes a big buck - we know where they live and how to send our clients home with the whitetail trophy of their lives. Our whitetail hunting area consistently produces trophy bucks as the forests, meadows and cut-overs provide excellent nourishment and cover for the "big guys".

We hunt over carefully located baited sites. Our heated blinds are fully enclosed and they blendinto the forest nicely. We use both elevated and ground blinds. We also do some still-hunting with grunt-tubes and rattling antlers. Although deer hunting requires much longer periods of time "on stand" we make every effort to ensure that our clients are warm and comfortable. When a big buck shows up your heart will pound and minutes will turn into hours! There is only one way to experience the excitement…

Our accommodations are unique in the Saskatchewan hunting industry since hunters stay in the comfort of Leona's home. Although this is a great situation with all the comforts of home, the real benefit is the wonderful attention that she provides her hunters. Let's just say that you will be reminded of the good old days when the smell of home cooked meals and pastries filled the air.

Located just a few miles from Pierceland, Saskatchewan, Leona's farm-home is easy to get to from major airports in either Alberta or Saskatchewan. Once you have arrived you will enjoy the hunting adventure of your life - great surroundings, great guides and "SASKATCHEWAN BIG" WHITETAIL BUCKS!
