Pakwash Lake has long been known for its excellent fishing, beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife. It is also a place to relax and enjoy all that the northern wilderness has to offer.
The Pakwash Lake System is situated at the junction of three mighty Northern Ontario rivers, the Chukuni, the Trout and the English. These three rivers drain much of the region and are responsible for the high productivity of these lakes.
Fish for walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, muskellunge, lake whitefish and yellow perch with Pakwash Lake Camp. Fish and explore over 31,000 acres of water and 100 miles of shoreline on four different lakes.
Pakwash Lake Camp provides light housekeeping cottages and RV facilities amidst the spruce forest on the eastern shore of beautiful Pakwash Lake.
Pakwash Lake Camp housekeeping cottages are fully equipped for your convenience and include full bathrooms and kitchens, and comfortable bedrooms compete with linens.
Other camp features include RV sites with water and electrical hookups, docking and boat launch facilities, fish cleaning facilities and a camp store for your convenience.
Pakwash Lake and the connected waterways has some of the best fishing for walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, muskellunge, whitefish and yellow perch in Northwestern Ontairo.
The large rivers flowing through the system means that the lakes are extremely productive producing numerous large gamefish.
At Pakwash Lake Camp you are not limited to one lake. Travel north to the Trout River and into Bruce Lake for walleye, or go south to the English River for Muskie and Northern Pike.
Structure along the shoreline provides great smallmouth bass fishing throughout the year!
While the fishing is great at Pakwash you may decide to take-in some of the other recreational opportunities the area has to offer.
There is a beach at camp and there are several other beaches located within short boating or walking distance from camp. Relax on the beach, or go for a swim in the warm shallow waters of Pakwash Lake.
For those who wish to see nature close-up, take a stroll along one of the areas wilderness trails. Be sure to bring your camera along just in case. The area is home to abundant wildlife including moose, bear, fox, wolves, lynx, beaver and is a major nesting area for the majestic bald eagle.
For those interested in the areas rich history there are several sites of interest within the area. To the north of Pakwash lake on Hwy 105 is the Griffith Mine Interpretive Trails. This former open pit iron ore mine is now open to the public. The site contains several nature trails with interpretive information panels. You can also see the massive open pits from which iron ore was extracted in years gone by. Pakwash Lake Camp itself is a historic site. During the Red Lake Gold Rush of the early 1900s the Hudson's Bay Company established a trading post on Pakwash Lake at the point beside our camp. The post was called ãThrough the Willowsä and served as a way-station when the waterways were the main routes of travel.
The meeting of the English and Chukuni Rivers south of Pakwash was called "the mattawa" or "meeting place" and was one of the first Hudson’s Bay Posts in the area. Before that time the hill above the confluence of these two great rivers was a meeting place for native peoples of the area.
If golfing is your passion you can take to the links at the Ear Falls Golf and Country Club in nearby Ear Falls. This challenging 9-hole course boasts a clubhouse with licensed dining, cart and club rentals, a roving "bar cart" and a pro shop.
