YOUR WILDERNESS FISHING ADVENTURE BEGINS THE MOMENT YOU ARRIVE! Red Pine Wilderness Lodge, and its 8 guest cottages set amidst towering, fragrant red pine trees on a remote 7 acre island is the ideal place for your special remote fishing trip or wilderness family holiday. We are the Gateway to two huge parks: The Obabika Waterway Park and The Lady Evelyn/Smoothwater Wilderness Park.
FISHING, FISHING, DID WE MENTION FISHING? The waters of Lady Evelyn Lake offer the serious angler Northeastern Ontario's finest Walleye (Pickerel), Great Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Whitefish and Perch fishing. Don't forget about the 3 species of Trout that also call this area "home".
ONCE YOU'RE HERE, TAKE A DEEP BREATH (IT'S CALLED FRESH AIR). Enjoy this remote lake's breathtaking scenery as you travel by lake barge and boat launch to picturesque Red Pine Island. Spacious comfortable and well appointed cottages accommodate up to 6 adults. A choice of Housekeeping or American Plan ensures the perfect holiday. Your privacy and convenience are enhanced by a private dock, each with a 16 foot aluminum boat and 15 horsepower motor for every two adults. There are also electronic fish finders available at no extra charge. All-inclusive plans include gas, live bait, ice, sheets, towels, & food.
Sugar Lake - Lake Trout, Northern Pike, SM Bass. Just a 10 minute boat ride and a 25 minute walk is all that is required to find this lake of about 2 miles wide and three main fingers. One of the most scenic lakes in the area, Sugar Lake produces fair sized-Lakers in the spring (late May to mid June) and very good size and plentiful Smallmouth Bass thoughout the summer and into fall. Fish from our 14' Aluminimum boat equipped with a 2 HP motor.
Long Lake - Northern Pike, & funny-looking minnows that appear to have stuck their heads in a pencil sharpener type device? Great lake if you love to flail away, casting into weed beds all day long. Twenty minute boat ride, then a half hour walk. You have this 2 mile long, 1/2 mile wide Pike Heaven all to yourself! Fishing from our 14' boat with a 2 HP motor the many Northerns up to 12 lbs. like to go after those Little Cleos and other flashy spoons. (Don't worry about those little funny-looking minnows, they're just mini-pike eating and growing). NOTE: This lake full of Northerns had a rest in 1999. Due to unusually low water levels on the main lake nobody fished on Long Lake. The 2000 season promises to be exceptional for these fighters!
HAD ENOUGH FISHING? (ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE). To compliment our fishing there is hiking, swimming, sunbathing, and waterfall exploring. Nearby nature trails offer a chance to explore the diverse landscape and to snap the perfect photograph. Some of the wildlife you may see include, Moose, Black Bear, Osprey, Bald & Golden Eagles, Otters, Beaver, and the perhaps the elusive Timber Wolf or Bobcat. White sandy beaches and crystal clear waters are an invitation to swimmers and water sport lovers alike. And, at the end of a worry free day you can be a "porch potato" (the North's version of a couch potato) on your own front deck to enjoy a gorgeous northern sunset...
Then there is our WILD ISLAND NIGHTLIFE! What? There's nightlife at a fishing resort on an island? You bet. It's our completely natural program featuring Haunting Loon Calls, Crackling Campfires, and incredible visual effects performed by the Northern Lights. Just like any popular night spot, there's always a few Wienies, (but here they're cooked on a stick). Oh, then of course there's the Stars in attendance - They always come out on a clear night...
This is one of the last, large lakes in Northeast Ontario that is still classified as being remote, mainly due to the dam at the north end and no road access. It covers an area roughly 22,000 acres in size when added to Sucker Gut (funny name, beautiful lake) and Willow Island Lakes. Upwards of 450 miles of wilderness shoreline for walleye to cruise, bass to nest and northern pike to ambush. Red Pine is located on the Northeast arm of the lake featuring many sheltered fishing areas and water depths in the 15' to 40' range. No need to hunt for trophies in deep water here. In fact, as large as Lady Evelyn Lake is, most guest stay within a three mile radius of Red Pine Island for most of their fishing excursions! Following on this page is an overview of fishing on the main lake.
