Sclater River Outfitters will make every effort to make your hunt a successful and memorable one. We have over 20 years of experience in guiding and outfitting and have hunted for many more. Six day bear hunts including accomodations, meal, guides, and transportation to and from hunting sights from Cowan, Manitoba, Canada.
Our spring and fall bear hunts are done over well established bait sights. These are located north east of the Duck Mountain Provincial Forest. To get to the bait sights we use 4x4's and all terrian vehicles. Hunters may use rifles, muzzle loaders, or bows for hunting.
The black bear comes in all color phases from blonde, cinnamon, brown and black. Bring your cameras, as you can have 3 or 4 different bear coming to one bait sight. We hunt the transition areas between farmland into the woodlands. Hunters enjoy a very high success rate of harvest as the living population is thriving. The area around the Duck Mountain holds one of the largest population of bears in Manitoba. This gives our hunters some of best opportunites to harvest large animals. Rifle or muzzle loader stands are approximatley 50 to 100 yards from bait sights.
We stay in the small town of Cowan, Manitoba, 30 miles southeast of Swan River. This allows us closer access to the hunting area. Cowan is on paved Hwy 10 and hunters are able to drive to accommodations. Others fly to Winnipeg International Airport and rent a vehicle and drive to Cowan; approximately 300 miles and a 5 hour journey.
Being close to the Duck Mountain Provincial Park, provides opportunities to fish, hike, horseback trail ride, boating, ATV, snow machine and other related outdoor activities. Some of our guests enjoy fishing in the hundreds of lakes that are available in the Duck Mountains. We can arrange boat, motor and other equipment to try out these lakes once the bear hunt has been successful.
The lakes have many varieties of fish species including northern pike, perch, muskellunge, pickerel, rainbow trout, splake, lake trout, brook trout and brown trout, etc. We can make arrangements for fall duck and goose hunts. Contact us for more details as Manitoba has abundant numbers of migrating brids from mid September to October.
